Crystal Records, Crystal Publishing Company and Dominant Music Company were started up in 1968 by Jack Price and Jack's mother Lilian Jean Domminney. The Crystal label product was a mixture of Pop, Soul and Reggae: The first release on the Crystal label was "With These Hands" sung by Mark Wayne - alias Denzil Dennis, and was produced by Jack Price at R. G. Jones' Studios, London.
In the early '70s, Jack Price started the Reggae-only Sioux label, which he relaunched in 1996. Both Crystal and Sioux Records were manufactured by President: Distribution was by Enterprise, Lugton and H. R. Taylor.
Numbering of Crystal singles was mainly in the CR7000s. (Crystal Records did release an album by The Pavement). The label's design stayed the same throughout its life, but it came in three different colour schemes: blue, yellow and black to at least CR7010, then red with black printing, and finally black and silver.
The company stopped issuing records around 1978. Unfortunately it never enjoyed any hits, but at various times it had former hit-makers such as Ricky Valance (Jason Merryweather), The Cats and Craig Douglas on its books.
